One day
the grief will catch up to you.
Be kind to it
and to yourself.
Allow it to do what it always needed to do —
to embrace you,
and for you to feel it.
Even when it feels like death.
For it is in weeping that we feel
the soft touch of something like a friend
lamenting with us,
protesting with us,
— being with us —
in the shadows
so that we may
once again
step out
into the cloud of unknowing
knowing that we are held
and have space to hold
whatever it is we wish to let go.
